For winter’s rains and ruins are over

For winter’s rains and ruins are over,
And frosts are slain and flowers begotten,
And in green underwood and cover
Blossom by blossom the spring begins!

Swinburne

Or as this year, every blossom at once in an explosion of colour and scent! And what blossoms!  Untouched by frost or rain they positively glowed!! In other words the most perfect spring I can remember.

The road has been mended, trees damaged by the storms have been felled or pruned and the duck has built a nest just by the gate, and is sitting on a large clutch of eggs!! The rabbit has departed one way or another, and the grass has had its second cut. So now begins the summer work, planting, feeding, weeding, tying up, tying down, watering, dealing with seedlings and generally having a great deal of fun!

And to cap everything in this bizarre spring, we were sprinkled with sand from the Sahara! What a weird and wonderful world!

Two new trees are in place behind the long border -they are a memorial to our dear Sally who is so much missed.

The summer season starts on Saturday 31st May with Dick’s Day – hope to see you there!
